ADE Library Media Center

Ready to Explore?

This year we are using books and technology to open up new worlds.  Our students are learning to choose books wisely, to read independently for information, and to search our library catalog for what they need.  They are discovering new authors, series, and genres in our media center and on the world wide web.  And they are learning to locate the appropriate resources for school projects, and to create their own resources to show what they've learned.  The world is waiting for us, so let's go!

The Book Fair!

Are you ready to Read Around the World?

That's the theme of this year's book fair!  We'll have books that take you all over the world, as well as new books about your favorite characters, written by your favorite authors.  Look for the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, the latest two books in the 39 Clues series, a sequel to Swindle called Zoobreak written by Gordon Korman, and much more!

The book fair will be held in the Media Center November 8-20, and will be open from 7:30-3:00 each day.  Join us before and after the PTA meeting on November 15 for Family Night and enter to win a $15 Book Fair Gift Certificate!  Parents, if you'd like to volunteer to help with the book fair, please call the school at 775-0857 and ask for Mrs. June.

See you at the Book Fair!

S.C. Children's Book Awards

Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be participating in the S.C. Children's Book Award program again this year.  Twenty books have been nominated for this special award, but only one book will receive the gold medal!

TumbleBooks are a part of our media centers's resources this year, and many new books have been added over the summer, including Penelope and the Monsters, Little Hoot, and Matthew and the Midnght Tow Truck!  I've purchased a subscription to this online storybook library that allows students  access to over 100 children's picture books at home or at school.  (Some of them are even in Spanish and French!)  The site also offers learning games related to each of the books, and an option for students to write reviews of the books they enjoy.  Just click the blue TumbleBooks banner to visit the site!

If you'd like to know what children's books I'm reading, and what I think of them, take a peek at my Google Book List.  I'm keeping a record of all the books I've read from our library, with a short review of each.  If you see one you like, I'll be glad to help you find it in our library!  Click on the "Google" icon below to see the list!

You can now view and search our entire library collection from home!  Just visit http://64.53.34.32/ to see a list of all the schools in our district.  Then click on "Alice Drive Elementary School" to get started.
